# Suppression

> What suppressing a contact does, how far back it reaches into pieces already in flight, and why it is a workspace-wide switch rather than a per-campaign filter.

Source: https://trysincerely.com/docs/suppression

Suppressing a contact stops Sincerely mailing them, everywhere, immediately. It exits every enrolment they have and cancels every queued piece that has not been submitted to a vendor. It is not a filter on one campaign and not a flag that takes effect at the next run.

## What happens the moment it is set

Three things, together:

1. Every enrolment for that contact exits, across every campaign in the workspace.
2. Every piece for them that has not been handed to a vendor is cancelled.
3. Nothing enrols them again, from any audience or any playbook.

Removing someone from an audience does none of this. It stops future enrolments from that audience and leaves everything already in motion running, which is why the two operations are separate.

## The line Sincerely cannot cross

A piece already submitted to a vendor is in someone else's queue. Sincerely sends the cancellation to the vendor and records what the vendor says, but the vendor's answer is the truth about whether it printed.

So suppression is instantaneous for everything Sincerely still holds, and a request for everything it does not. The record shows which one each piece got, rather than reporting both as cancelled.

## Why it is global

A per-campaign suppression list is a promise you can only keep by remembering it on every campaign someone creates afterwards. A person who asks not to receive mail is asking the company, not the campaign, so the switch lives at the workspace and there is no way to launch past it.

## Suppressing through an agent

Changing suppression is a consequential action. An agent asking for it gets a confirmation card naming the contact and what will be cancelled, and a person clicks it. The gate is the same one that guards spending money, for the same reason: both are hard to take back. See [confirmations](https://trysincerely.com/docs/mcp-confirmations).

## What to read next

[Campaigns](https://trysincerely.com/docs/campaigns) covers the frequency cap, which is the other brake on how much mail one person can receive. [Privacy](https://trysincerely.com/privacy) covers what Sincerely stores about recipients and for how long.

Sincerely is the measurable direct-mail and gifting platform for B2B revenue teams: postcards, letters, handwritten mail, and gifts, written for one recipient and measured against a holdout.
