# How many people should you mail at one B2B account?

Mail one person when the piece responds to a personal signal, and usually two or three people when a strategic account requires several buying-committee roles. Do not mail six people with the same message simply because six contacts exist. Each recipient needs a distinct reason, and every touch belongs to one coordinated account plan.

## Use one recipient for personal moments

A new executive, event conversation, renewal concern, or founder introduction usually points to one person. The relevance comes from the relationship or event, so copying the note to the rest of the company weakens it. The [new-executive](https://trysincerely.com/playbooks/new-executive) and [event follow-up](https://trysincerely.com/playbooks/event-follow-up) plays follow this pattern.

One recipient is also the right default when the account is smaller, the deal value cannot support several pieces, or you only have one verified and relevant contact.

## Use two or three roles for strategic accounts

Enterprise purchases rarely belong to one person. Choose roles with different jobs in the decision:

- The economic buyer, who cares about cost, priority, and risk
- The operational owner, who cares about workflow and adoption
- A technical or security stakeholder, when the product requires them

Write a separate message for each role. Three copies of the same executive letter are a batch send disguised as personalization. The [buying committee](https://trysincerely.com/glossary/buying-committee) guide explains why role-specific concerns matter.

## Coordinate at the account level

Set an account plan before creating contact-level pieces. Decide the total budget, the order of recipients, and what the sales rep will do when one person responds. A reply from the operational owner may make the planned executive letter unnecessary.

Apply the physical-mail [frequency cap](https://trysincerely.com/guides/direct-mail-frequency-caps) to each contact, then inspect total account pressure. Three people receiving three pieces each is nine paid touches into one company. That may be justified for a strategic opportunity and excessive for a cold account.

## Measure by account

Randomize the experiment by account, never by contact. If one stakeholder receives mail, the company has been treated. Putting their colleague in the holdout contaminates the comparison because an opportunity belongs to the account, not to the individual address.

Keep every contact from an account in the same experimental arm, and count the primary outcome once at the account level. This costs statistical power and preserves the question the experiment is meant to answer. The [ABM playbook](https://trysincerely.com/playbooks/abm-programs) and [holdout guide](https://trysincerely.com/holdout-testing) cover the full design.

More contacts create reach only when each one has a reason to receive the piece.
