# Personalized landing pages for direct mail

> How Sincerely gives each mail piece a unique response link, serves a hosted form or redirects to a customer site, records visits, and supports branded domains.

Someone scans the QR code on a postcard. What happens next? Sincerely uses the piece's unique response link to find the current destination, record the visit, and either show a hosted page or redirect to the customer's site. The link is associated with an intended recipient, campaign step, and design version. It does not prove who opened it or authenticate that person.

## From card to page

Standard postcards and letters show a QR code with a typed link underneath. Until the workspace claims a shorter branded domain, that link uses the full app address. A handwritten piece omits the QR and typed link by default and can print them as a layout choice. In every case, a random token belongs to that one piece.

The destination itself is never printed on the mail or frozen into a design. It is chosen for the campaign or the single send, with an optional override per design. When the link opens, the server reads the token and looks up whichever destination is currently published. There are two choices.

- **Hosted page.** Sincerely renders the workspace's branding and copy. The page may show the intended contact's name and form values already known from the CRM. It stays under 60 KB, sends no third-party scripts or cookies, and is marked `noindex`.
- **Customer site.** Sincerely records the visit, then redirects to the configured URL with `utm_source=sincerely`, `utm_medium=direct_mail`, and a conversion ID. The customer's site does not receive the per-piece token.

## Use CRM values in forms

Suppose the CRM already has the intended recipient's first name and company. A hosted page can show those values and fill known form fields. The visitor supplies anything missing and can correct a value that is wrong. If an answer conflicts with the CRM, Sincerely queues it for review instead of silently changing the record.

The page may also repeat the personal note from the piece. It uses the frozen copy that was mailed, so a later edit cannot make the page and card disagree.

People can build a draft in the studio or ask the assistant to create one. A recipient cannot see the draft until a person publishes it.

## Change the destination after mailing

Mail may still be on desks months after a campaign ends. Because the server looks up the token on every visit, an editor can change where that old link goes without reprinting anything. Saving a draft leaves the live destination alone. Before publication, the confirmation shows how many in-flight recipients could see the change. Each later visit records the version that was served.

## Choose the link domain

Sincerely supports three domain options.

1. **Default.** Pieces use Sincerely's app domain without setup.
2. **Branded link domain.** A workspace can claim `yourname.sincerely.link` and print it with a seven-character token. This domain only serves recipient pages. It has no login or marketing pages, and search engines cannot index it.
3. **Customer domain.** A paid workspace can use a subdomain such as `links.yourcompany.com`. The owner adds two DNS records, a CNAME and a TXT verification record, then verifies the domain in Settings. Sincerely provisions the certificate and serves the pages. One domain can be active per workspace.

Sincerely does not reuse a claimed name or verified domain for another customer. Printed links may be opened years after the original mailing.

## What a visit records

Opening the QR code creates a QR-link visit associated with the piece, intended contact, campaign step, and design version. The typed link gets a different event type. Form answers go to the responses inbox, while known bot and preview traffic stays out of the reported counts.

If the report shows a visit, the safe conclusion is simple: somebody opened the link. You do not know who was holding the phone, whether they read the piece, or whether the mail caused revenue. Use [held-out accounts](https://trysincerely.com/holdout-testing) to estimate incremental effect. The [QR code guide](https://trysincerely.com/guides/qr-codes-on-direct-mail) and [measurement page](https://trysincerely.com/measurement) explain the rest.
