# Congratulations on funding: what to write (25 notes)

> 25 short congratulations notes for a customer, prospect, or founder whose company just raised, written so the money never becomes your sales pitch.

A funding congratulations note runs two or three sentences. Mention the round, or what the company said the money will pay for, then add one detail that could only fit this company, and sign your name. Leave your product out. Cut any line that reads like "now you have budget." Below are 25 example notes for customers, open deals, strangers, and founders you know, sorted by relationship and by the kind of round. Each fits on a 4x6 postcard written by hand.

![A blue pill reading round announced leads to a pile of letters, each with one short line and three gold offer lines, and to a single handwritten card marked asks nothing.](https://trysincerely.com/images/messages/congratulations-on-funding-message.webp)

*A congratulations on funding message is the card that does not ask, while most notes that week spend one line on congratulations and three on the offer.*

## Why funding notes slide into pitches

A raise is public, dated, and easy to find, so every vendor that tracks funding news writes the same week. Most of those notes have a tell: the congratulations takes one line and the offer takes three. The founder or finance lead reads the first line and skims the rest.

Your note has one job, which is to be the card that does not ask. If you sell to this company, the call or email a week later carries the business conversation. The [funding-round play](https://trysincerely.com/playbooks/funding-round) covers that follow-up and who should get the card. For the account research behind a later approach, read [how to sell after a funding round](https://trysincerely.com/guides/how-to-sell-after-a-funding-round).

Here is how three common pitch lines fail, and what to write in their place:

| Line that pitches | What the reader hears | Write instead |
| -------------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| "Now that you have the budget, let's talk." | You read the press release as an invoice | A sentence about what the round is for |
| "Teams that just raised use us to scale faster." | A template with their name pasted in | One thing you know about their company that a template would not |
| "I'd love 15 minutes to show you how we can help." | A meeting request from a stranger | Nothing. Let the follow-up email ask, a week later, if you sell to them |

The merge fields below are written the way the Sincerely studio writes them. `{{first_name|Hello}}` prints the first name, or "Hello" if the record has none. `{{custom.round|new round}}` reads a field your team filled in, such as "Series B", and prints "new round" when it is blank. `{{company}}` needs no fallback because every account has a name.

## A customer of yours raised

- `{{first_name|Hello}}`, congratulations on the `{{custom.round|new round}}`. One warehouse to four since we met, and now investors noticed too.
- `{{first_name|Hello}}`, big week. If the round means more seats on our side, tell me early and the accounts will be ready before your new hires start.
- Congratulations to the whole team, `{{first_name|friend}}`. You picked us when you had eleven people. We'll work to stay worth picking at the next size.
- `{{first_name|Hello}}`, I read the announcement twice. Your line about the rural clinics was the best part. Congratulations on the round.

## A prospect you are already talking to

- `{{first_name|Hello}}`, congratulations on the raise. With the board meeting this week, our pilot call can move to whenever suits you. Priya and I are flexible.
- `{{first_name|Hello}}`, congratulations. In August you said hiring would wait for the round. If it's back on, I'd still like to help with onboarding.
- `{{first_name|Hello}}`, we've traded 14 emails about the pilot. This card is not the 15th. Only congratulations to you and Sam on the round.

## A target account you have never spoken to

- `{{first_name|Hello}}`, congratulations on the round. We have not met. After a raise, the support queue tends to grow before the support team does. I have notes.
- `{{first_name|Hello}}`, you don't know me. I read about the round and wanted to congratulate the person who has to spend it well.
- `{{first_name|Hello}}`, congratulations. Finance leads tell me the board deck got harder the day the round closed. I have a sample spend report if it helps. Kofi
- `{{first_name|Hello}}`, I read that the round pays for the move into Canada. I've moved freight across that border for nine years. Customs questions welcome.

## A founder you know personally

- `{{first_name|Hello}}`, I still have the 2021 napkin where you drew `{{company}}` as three boxes and an arrow. Congratulations.
- `{{first_name|Hello}}`, congratulations on closing it. I know how many no's came before this yes. Go sleep for a full day.
- `{{first_name|Hello}}`, you said you'd raise when the numbers made the case and not a month before. They did. Dinner is on me in Austin.

## A first round

- `{{first_name|Hello}}`, congratulations on the seed round. You ran the first 30 customer calls yourself. I hope you keep taking a few.
- `{{first_name|Hello}}`, last time I saw you, this was two laptops in a shared office on Elm Street. Congratulations on the first round. Save me a mug.

## A later round

- `{{first_name|Hello}}`, two years ago you were 40 people in one Raleigh office. Now a `{{custom.round|new round}}` and a third office in May. Congratulations.
- `{{first_name|Hello}}`, a growth round after the slow year you described at lunch in March. Congratulations to everyone who stayed through it.

## When the round names a plan

- `{{first_name|Hello}}`, the release said the money builds a second plant in Ohio. Congratulations. I've seen three teams ramp a new line and can share what they learned.
- `{{first_name|Hello}}`, congratulations. Hiring 40 engineers in a year is its own project. Two teams who did it gave me their onboarding checklist. Want it?
- `{{first_name|Hello}}`, new product line, new money. Congratulations. A second product usually starts a second argument about pricing. Ours did.

## When the round came with hard news

- `{{first_name|Hello}}`, the round and the restructuring came in the same release. Congratulations on one, and I'm sorry about the other.
- `{{first_name|Hello}}`, a flat round in this market is still a round, and your team kept building. Congratulations, and good luck with the next stretch.

## Short enough for a corner of the card

- `{{first_name|Hello}}`, the `{{custom.round|round}}` was well earned. Enjoy tonight.
- `{{first_name|Hello}}`, well done, all of you at `{{company}}`.

## How much fits on a handwritten card

The default writing area on a handwritten 4x6 postcard is three lines of about 61 to 65 characters, which is why every note above is short. Sincerely estimates the fit at 12 characters per inch and a quarter-inch line height, and checks it with each field at the long end of its range. All 25 notes fit the default area. You can enlarge the area, though a postcard body never exceeds 240 characters. For room to write a real paragraph, a handwritten letter holds about 13 to 15 lines.

## Sending funding notes at scale through Sincerely

A custom Sincerely campaign can watch the accounts on its list for dated, sourced signals from the web, news, and job boards, a raise included. Each fact keeps its source link and date, and a person approves it before that contact enters the campaign. There is no automatic funding trigger that skips that review. If your team already tracks raises in a spreadsheet, upload it as a [CSV](https://trysincerely.com/integrations/csv), with the round in its own column so the `{{custom.round|new round}}` field has something to print.

Sincerely drafts each note for one recipient from CRM context and the sourced fact. You approve the words before anything prints. A handwritten note is genuinely written by hand in black or blue ballpoint, photographed, and handed to USPS or Canada Post on a promised mailing day. Handwritten mail reports no delivery. Plan the follow-up from the handoff date. If the same person also just started a new job, the [new-role examples](https://trysincerely.com/messages/congratulations-on-new-role-message) fit better than a funding note.
