# Sincerely vs EDDM (Every Door Direct Mail)

If you want to blanket a neighborhood for about 26 cents a piece, use EDDM. If you want to reach specific companies and specific people at those companies, use [Sincerely](https://trysincerely.com/), because EDDM cannot address a piece to anyone.

These two tools barely compete. EDDM (Every Door Direct Mail) is a USPS program, not a company. You pick carrier routes on a map, and USPS delivers your flyer to every mailbox on those routes. Sincerely is a direct mail platform for B2B outbound: it syncs accounts from Salesforce, HubSpot, or CSV, writes each piece for one recipient, and measures lift against holdouts. Sincerely also sends gifts: 46 physical gifts with a personalized note, prices starting at $49, and the exact price shown before confirmation, in the United States and Canada. See [gifts](https://trysincerely.com/gifts). The overlap is only the mailbox.

## Where EDDM is the better choice

EDDM wins whenever your customer is "everyone who lives near me." Be honest about whether that is you.

- **Local service businesses.** A pizza shop, dentist, landscaper, or gym should not pay for account targeting. Every household within two miles is a prospect. EDDM Retail postage is $0.26 per piece as of August 2026, per the [USPS EDDM page](https://www.usps.com/business/every-door-direct-mail.htm). Nothing addressed comes close to that price.
- **No mailing list, no problem.** EDDM needs zero addresses. You pick routes in the online tool, filter roughly by Census data like age or income, and USPS handles delivery. If you have no list and no CRM, that removes your biggest obstacle.
- **Grand openings and local announcements.** When the message is "we exist, we are here," saturation is the point. You can send 200 to 5,000 pieces per day per ZIP code without a mailing permit.
- **Raw cost per impression.** At postage plus print, EDDM delivers a physical impression cheaper than almost any channel, physical or digital.

If you run a local consumer business, stop reading and go use EDDM. It is the right tool.

## Where Sincerely wins

For B2B, EDDM is not a cheaper option. It is a non-option, for three structural reasons.

**No targeting.** EDDM addresses mail "Postal Customer." You cannot pick a company, let alone a VP of Sales at that company. Your target account's office sits on a carrier route with hundreds of homes and unrelated businesses. You pay to mail all of them to maybe reach one, and the piece still lands in a general mail pile with no name on it. Sincerely starts from your account list, or [finds businesses and verified addresses](https://trysincerely.com/campaigns) from a description of your ideal customer, and every address is resolved and checked for mailability before printing.

**No personalization.** Every EDDM piece is identical, which is fine for a pizza coupon and fatal for outbound. A B2B piece works when it proves you did your homework: the recipient's name, their company, a fact about their situation. Sincerely writes every piece for one recipient from CRM context and researched account facts, with your choice of human or automatic review. More on why that matters in [the writing approach](https://trysincerely.com/personalization).

**No measurement.** EDDM gives you a delivery receipt, not results. You cannot know whether the mail did anything, because everyone got it and nobody is in a control group. Sincerely locks an experiment design at launch: primary outcome, window, holdout percentage. Readouts show lift against account-level holdouts with confidence intervals, and say plainly when a result is not statistically ready. See [how measurement works](https://trysincerely.com/measurement).

**No response page.** An EDDM flyer can print a QR code, but the page behind it is a project you build and host, and it greets every household identically. A Sincerely printed postcard or letter can carry its own code and short link, and Sincerely hosts the page it opens for the one recipient it was printed for: their name and company, the note printed on their piece, the parts you marked to be written per recipient, and a reply form prefilled from your CRM. You publish one page for the campaign, and nobody builds a page per contact. The same link can redirect to your own site instead, once Sincerely records the visit. See [landing pages](https://trysincerely.com/landing-pages).

There is no workaround here. You cannot bolt targeting onto a saturation product. The 26 cent price only exists because USPS skips the addressing entirely.

## Pricing reality

**EDDM:** postage is $0.26 per piece for EDDM Retail as of August 2026 ([USPS Notice 123](https://pe.usps.com/cpim/ftp/manuals/dmm300/Notice123.pdf)). Add printing from any commercial printer, plus your design time and the drop-off at the post office. MPA puts an EDDM postcard at [$0.30 to $0.55 all in](https://www.mailpro.org/post/how-much-does-direct-mail-cost/).

**Sincerely:** the package and format terms active for the current deployment are published on [the pricing page](https://trysincerely.com/pricing). Print, postage, and address verification are included.

Yes, a Sincerely piece costs several times an EDDM piece. That is the wrong comparison. Compare cost per piece that reaches a person you actually want to reach. One targeted piece to a decision maker at a named account beats a thousand anonymous flyers scattered across a carrier route, and only one of the two can report lift. Nothing in the saturation price pays for a name on the piece, a sentence about the company, a verified address, or a page for whoever scans the code. For named accounts those four jobs still have to happen, and without a platform someone does them one company at a time.

## The decision rule

Sell to a neighborhood, use EDDM. Sell to a named account list, use Sincerely. If you are unsure which one you are, ask whether you could write down the companies you want as customers. If you can write the list, saturation mail wastes almost every piece.

EDDM answers "how do I reach everyone nearby." Sincerely answers "how do I reach exactly these accounts, and measure what the mail added."
